Tommy's Tavern + Tap Sea Bright is the group's Jersey Shore location, with a rooftop that has one of the strongest views in the Tommy's portfolio and a corresponding set of environmental constraints: high coastal wind exposure, salt-air corrosion, and a Northeast outdoor season that runs short.
This is our fifth project with the Tommy's group, and the design brief was the same one we hear every time: convert the outdoor section into a permanent dining room, fully usable across every season, integrated visually with the existing building so it never reads as bolted-on.
The Sea Bright site required engineering for coastal-grade wind exposure at 120+ mph, finish specifications graded for ocean-adjacent installations, and a structural attachment that worked with the rooftop's existing parapet geometry.
Breslow developed the Sea Bright design around the Azenco R-Blade™ motorized louvered roof system, modeled in both opened and closed louver states. The aluminum louvers rotate 160° for sun and ventilation, then close and seal against rain in under 60 seconds — fully automated, no staff intervention.
Two structural design options were developed (Option 1 and Option 2), each rendered across three finish combinations — all-black frame, wood-and-black accent, and wood-and-black with opened louver states — so ownership could evaluate the aesthetic tradeoffs before committing to fabrication.
Engineering was stamped for the Jersey Shore wind exposure, with material grades specified for ocean-adjacent corrosion resistance. Full turnkey scope: design with 18 photo-real renderings → PE engineering → Sea Bright permitting → Azenco coastal-grade fabrication → installation → lifetime service.
