The brief called for a high-end, fixed-roof pergola with retractable shade for sun control, finished to match the residence, and engineered to hold up to four Long Island seasons. We designed and installed a custom Azenco R-Shade™ pergola at the Old Westbury residence — a fixed, closed-roof aluminum pergola with an integrated retractable fabric shade system. Unlike the motorized R-Blade louvers, the R-Shade roof is solid and weather-tight by default, with the retractable shade providing on-demand sun control beneath. It's a quieter system, a simpler mechanical design, and a meaningfully more affordable Azenco product — without sacrificing the structural rigor or finish quality.
